So yes, many Arabic speakers are Muslim and the Quran isn’t particularly friendly towards games of chance. But a die can also be a good way to learn numbers in other alphabets! Here, therefore, is the simple origin of the word “chance”, which indeed comes from the Arabic word “az-zahr” meaning “gaming die”!
